Class Description:

Companies who intend to use EAN.UCC standards must themselves comply with the standard and must encourage trading partners to comply. It sounds axiomatic but companies are only meeting marginal success in using bar code-based systems because they do not have a comprehensive program in place to promote the use of the EAN.UCC standard. Without such a program, suppliers frequently send unusable bar codes or no bar codes at all.

But compliance to the standard goes beyond bar codes. The standard method of product identification must be used to receive orders and payment. Companies must be able to send and receive an electronic file called an advanced shipping notice (ASN) so that they can match items and purchase orders automatically.

Students completing this class will be able to establish a program for their company that includes fundamental understanding, company policies and an ongoing program to monitor and maintain quality.  A complete guide is provided that includes sample letters and forms to assist in the development of the program.
